Breakfast Bowl Scramble

One Sunday morning many years ago I was trying to figure out what to cook for breakfast.  Not having the usual bacon, ham or sausage patties I was frustrated.  But then I remembered that I had these cocktail sausages that I was going to use for a different dish.  Instead I decided that they would be used for breakfast that morning.  I cut every last one of the little things in half, cooked them up and threw them together with whatever else I could find that morning.

And so the breakfast bowl scramble was 'born'.  Even though the kids are all grown they still love it when I cook this up during their visits.  And after being asked for the 'recipe' I decided it would be one that I'd include in every scrapbook cookbook I create.

So now I give you my latest page.  This time I changed out the pig face from Animal Kingdom for the face of Hamm from Toy Story.  The pig silhouette is from the Cricut Cartridge Animal Kingdom and the arrow is from Graphically Speaking.

One of the great things about creating some of these recipe pages is that it has enabled me to whittle down some of my scrap stash.  I'm pretty bad about holding on to every piece of paper regardless of size so I love it when I can finally put those pieces to use.

And now I'm off to enter this recipe page into the following challenges:

Jo's Scrap Shack - Anything Goes - Ends August 14th

DoubleClick Skittles - Food Challenge - Ends August 18th

DL Art - August Linky Challenge - Ends August 31st

Hiding in My Craft Room - Super Scraps Saturday - Ends August 15th

Recipes Scrapped With Love

I love being able to create gifts for people.  It's so much more personal than going out and buying a gift that anyone could buy.  Not to mention that it's an expression of how much I love/care about the person I'm making it for.

Today's post is all about a recipe book that I made for one of my daughters, featuring recipes that I used to make for them when they were growing up.  Now before I share the pages I will admit that I personally do not eat this way anymore just because I've gone to a more plant based, as "close to nature" diet as I can.  (You can read more about that on my other blog - A Journey Into Fitness )

This recipe book was made over a period of weeks due to my crazy, chaotic schedule.  There's just never enough time in the day, but we've been cutting back on our weekend running around so I've been able to scrap a bit more here lately.  I picked up the album from Michaels and it's one of those 8x8 page sizes.  I love that it has the window on the cover because that allowed me to make "cover page".

But here are my other pages, along with the cuts I used and the recipes included.  I'm also going to enter this in the Hiding in My Craft Challenge this week where the challenge was to use 3 different designer papers. Mine are all from the DCWV mat stack Nana's Kitchen.  After all what better mat stack to use for a scrap booked recipe album?

Three Rules for A Happy Thanksgiving

You know those Chic fil A commercials where the cows encourage you to eat more chicken?  Well today I want to share a card that I made back when I first got in to paper crafting.  Instead of cows though we have a disguised turkey encouraging us to eat anything but turkey for Thanksgiving.

I had a lot of fun creating this card and since it's been a while I think it's one that I'll need to see about recreating and updating.  Now to find the time to do that.......

In the meantime though, here's what I used for this one.

Animal Kingdom for the Turkey - cut at 3 3/4"
PPDU for the hat and collar - both scaled to the sizes I needed to fit my turkey
Everyday PPD for the glasses - also scaled to the size needed
George - to create the sign, I used two of the shapes and welded them together
George for the numbers - cut at 3/4"

And for a little added fun this Thanksgiving check out the projects the design team made over at Hiding in my Craft Room.  They're cute, cute, cute, and I think I'll play along with them.

Child Friendly Thanksgiving Place Setting

I originally created this project back in 2010 but wanted to share this with you as we draw near to Thanksgiving this week.  Plus I noticed that my original post referenced the instructions being in a newsletter that is no longer available.......

Of course I can't take credit for this idea as it was based on inspiration I received from Scrapbooks, etc magazine.  In the article it showed great ideas for setting the table for the holiday and one of those ideas was a paper pieced turkey as a crayon holder.  Immediately the lights went on and I thought what a great idea - now let's expand it and that's just what I did.  So without further delay here are the instructions......

Child Friendly Thanksgiving Table Setting
Supplies Needed:

8 count box of crayons
Rubber band & piece of string/ribbon
1 ½ sheets Fall themed paper
8 ½ x 11” sheet of white or off-white paper
Cricut ink pen
Design Studio or Gypsy

Cricut cartridges:  I used Thanksgiving, Create a Critter, A Child’s Year, PPDU and Animal Kingdom, TBBM

To Create Placemat:

1.       Using the guidelines provided in Design Studio or Gypsy place a variety of Thanksgiving related cuts on the mat staying within an 8” x 11” area.

2.       Replace the Cricut blade with one of the ink pens and print the images.  Ink edges.

3.       Cut a 12” square paper to 9 ½” x 12”.  Adhere the white page to printed page.  Ink edges.

To Create Personalized Silverware Pocket:

1.     From TBBM cut one of the tag pockets in blackout (and no hole) at 11 ½”.  See pages 112& 113 of the handbook.

2.     If your paper is not a double print place your paper print down on the mat before cutting.  This will keep your print on the outside of the pocket when folding and putting together.

3.     Create name tag by cutting a pumpkin from Create a Critter at 1 ¾”.  Hide the facial contours to allow for writing the child’s name on the tag.

4.       Adhere tag to pocket.

To Create Crayon Holder:

1.       Using Create a Critter cut the turkey and needed layers at 2 ½”.  Ink edges.

2.       Build the layers for your turkey EXCEPT for the very back tail piece.

3.       Prick two small holes in the center of the very back tail piece.  Tie rubber band to the tail.

4.       Adhere tail piece to the turkey to complete build.

5.       Add crayons by wrapping rubber band around them to hold them in place.

Note: Crayon holder was scraplifted from the December 2010 issue of Scrapbooks, etc.

Food & Beverage Challenge Recipe Page

Happy Friday everyone and welcome to our food and beverage challenge, brought to you by Pause, Dream Enjoy! Our directive for this challenge was to create any type of project featuring food and/or beverages.  As you can tell I chose to feature food in the form of a recipe page spotlighting one of my family's favorite cold weather soups.  (I admit we make this year round though.)

For this recipe page (which I have created a couple variations of because I LOVE this little pig face) I used:

Animal Kingdom for the pig
Graphically Speaking for the arrow
From My Kitchen for the recipe card

And now that you've seen my project for this week's challenge, pop on over to PDE and check out all the other exciting projects our team created for you this week.  Then after  you've oohed and aahed, create one of your own and link up for your chances to win 3 digis of your choice from this week's sponsor

Quiche Recipe Page

Yes....it's another recipe page.....can you tell I'm on a roll?  LOL  Today I'd like to share a page that I put together for a quiche recipe that my children loved when they were all growing up.  We haven't had this in a while as most of them seem to have outgrown quiche but it's a great put together, freeze and cook when you need something later recipe.  So since my daughter is so busy with work I thought this would be a great addition to her book.

For this page I used:

Animal Kingdom for the chickens
From my Kitchen for the eggs

To get the recipe to print on the eggs just right I measured the area where I wanted the print and laid it out in MS Word using two different text boxes.  I then print the recipe onto paper, taped the eggs on the paper and print again.  BUT, for the second print I made sure to remove the outlines from the text boxes BEFORE printing.  After all we don't want those pesky boxes on our finished product......

Breakfast Bowl Recipe Page

I absolutely love this little pig face from the Animal Kingdom cartridge.  And what better way to display him than for a recipe page featuring pork?

The breakfast bowl recipe is one that I just kinda threw together one morning and it was an instant hit with all the children as well as my hubby.  So needless to say when I put together a scrapbooked recipe album for one of my daughter's this recipe had to be included.

To put the piggie's face together I pop dotted the snout to add a little depth to his face and as you can tell I opted for wiggle eyes to give him a more comical look.  This was a quick put together page that was both playful and cute all at the same time.

Hello Spring

Since yesterday was the first day of Spring I wanted to share with you a card that I made back a couple years ago.  This was the very first stair step card I made and I was so proud of the way it turned out.  For this card I used several cartridges including:

Paper Pups for the butterflies - cut at 3/4"

Stretch Your Imagination for the caterpillar - cut at 1"

Cricut Sampler (I don't have Walk in My Garden) for the flowers - cut at 2"

Zooballoo for the grass - cut at varying sizes for layering on the steps

Camp Out for the sign - cut at 2 1/2"

Animal Kingdom for the hello - cut at 1/2"

Needless to say once I finish getting my craft room put together (things have been crazy here and I should hopefully have it finished this weekend minus the new trim, carpet, etc.) I'm going to have to sit down and make some more of these kind of cards.  Especially now that the warm weather is back I'm feeling more 'motivated'.  LOL

Child Friendly Thanksgiving Place Setting

Last month I picked up a copy of Scrapbooks, etc and saw an article spotlighting a variety of fun ways to set the dinner table for Thanksgiving.  One of them used a paper pieced turkey as a crayon holder.  Well immediately the lights went on and I thought what a great idea - now let's expand it.  So off I went, dusting off my Cricut markers and pulling out cartridges to find images that would work for creating this project.

And now that the November edition of the Wildly Whimsical Crafing Loft Newsletter has been published I can share it with you.

For this project I used Thanksgiving, Create a Critter, A Child's Year, PPDU, TBBM and Animal Kingdom.  A list of other supplies used and complete instructions including cut sizes can be found in the newsletter.

Frog in my Pocket - Gift Card Holder

I finally got another one of my long awaited assignments completed.  This one I had to change up just a tad bit though.  The original assignment was to make a "card made with the animal kingdom cartridge. Maybe the frog...but have the card attached to or part of a thin box (cut from tags, bags, boxes, and more)for a gift card to go in"

I tried making a matchbox from TBBM but after two attempts I gave up.  I don't know if it was just me or what but it seemed like both matchbox cuts were either for the top or the inside of the box and when used together just didn't match up.  (no pun intended)

After two failed attempts I opted to go for an envelope style holder.   Other than TBBM and Animal Kingdom I also used Old West for the pocket.

For the matching gift tag I used a 2" square punch.

Hello Spring Flower Garden

This week's Cricut Cardz Challenge was to create a spring themed card using flower, butterflies and/or birds. Well I used two out of three so that wasn't too bad. I also tried a new card fold - the side step, and I don't mind telling you that I had a lot of fun with this one. I found the side step to be more creator friendly than just the step card so you'll see more of these in the future.

For this card though I used several cartridges:

Paper Pups for the butterflies - cut at 3/4"

Stretch Your Imagination for the caterpillar - cut at 1"

Cricut Sampler (I don't have Walk in My Garden) for the flowers - cut at 2"

Zooballoo for the grass - cut at varying sizes for layering on the steps

Camp Out for the sign - cut at 2 1/2"

Animal Kingdom for the hello - cut at 1/2"

When Life Hands You Lemons

I got the idea for this card during one of my awake times the other night; however, while putting it together I realized that I still have a lot to learn when trying to modify certain cuts.

There's not really anything special to this one just a lot of cutting, inking and strategic placement.

When in Doubt - Spinner Card (with video)

So here is yet another new technique that I wanted to try - Spinner Cards.
This was fun to do, but I had to make some changes because I could not find a 1/2" circle punch when I went to Michaels and all I own is a 5/8". Not much of a difference to be sure, but enough to have alter the directions followed. And speaking of directions, you can find them at the Splitcoast Stampers website by clicking on this link here: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/spinner_card/ststampers.com/resources/tutorials/spinner_card/
For my first attempt at this type of card I chose to work with the cow from Animal Garden - thinking that was the cute one. However, it turns out the one I really wanted (and will use next time) is the one from Paper Dolls......oh well, live and learn right? The cow on the outside of the card was cut at 3" and the one for the inside was cut at 2".

Another issue I ran into when putting the card together was that I did not think about the inside being raised and the card front therefore needing to be longer than usual with room for the special fold that would be needed to accomodate the inside. So after putting the card together I had to do yet some more quick thinking and created the special fold so that the card would close. This now left the front a little bit shorter and needing something to keep it closed. To accomplish this I folded another glue dot in half and placed a flower in the bottom center of the card to act as my closer - problem solved.

I have also created a 5 second video so that you can see for yourself just how this card works. Again, it was a lot of fun putting the first one together and this was certainly my learning curve but I will create more of these....

"Fish"ing you a Happy Birthday

I was playing around with the Animal Kingdom cartridge the other day and noticed that it had cutout for a fishbowl and fish. So I mulled around the idea of cutting them out or not.

Well as you can see I decided to do so and here is what I did with them....

I cut the fishbowl out of white cardstock and inked all the edges in blue. After cutting the fish, "water", and plant I put them all together and inked each piece as well. Once placed in the bowl I realized that something was missing......the little colored pebbles in the bottom of the bowl. So I smeared some glue along the bottom and sprinkled with Martha Stewart glitters in Peridot and Sunstone. Once the glitter was set I then applied a coating of Inkssential Glossy accent so that my fishbowl would have the finished look (and feel) of being a real fish bowl.

Problem is, the photo didn't let it all show through.....

It's Just Cheese - Altered Clock

I so love the way that this clock turned out.....

My boss has been given a new assignment and this Saturday will be my last day with her. So I just had to create a special gift for her to remember us. Needless to say there's an inside joke to the saying "it's just cheese" and bottom line is that it's something we say when it's time to quit belaboring a point.

The clock face is 10 1/4" so I cut a 9 3/4" circle using Accent Essentials.

From Animal Kingdom:

Large mouse is cut at 6.5"

Mice heads are cut at 1.5". For the eyes I used mini brads and painted the whites with acrylic paint.

Pooh and Friends:

"Cheese wheel" is actually the birthday cake from Pooh cut at 1.5" and reworked

Verbiage from Making the Grade was designed using Design Studio and is cut at 1.5"

To determine where to place the mice heads for the 12, 3, 6 and 9 I used a 5/8" circular punch to punch out the positions needed from the original clock face. I then placed this on top of mine and lightly drew the circles where the heads should be.
