Thankful Thoughts

It's been a crazy busy weekend for my family this weekend.  We made an overnight trip to Mississippi so that our next to youngest son and I could compete in a Spartan Sprint together.  It was my second such event and for his birthday I bought our son a race entry so he could do it with me.  It was a 4.3 mile course with A LOT of water, mud and 18 various obstacles.  All in all we had a great time.

Then today my husband wanted to play golf so he and I did that this afternoon.  And in between all that craziness I had to get just a little bit of cardmaking done.  There are a couple of challenges ending soon and I wanted to play along.

For my card I used this adorable Fall Scarecrows from Too Cute by Jessica.  I then added in the following cuts from Cricut cartridges:

     Football from Life's a Party
Leaves from Simply Scarecrows & Pooh and Friends

After cutting out and putting all the pieces together I added a bit of twine for the scarecrow's hat band and threw a couple of skittles I found at Michael's in with the leaves that are up in the air.

My stamped sentiment is from the Craftin Desert Divas stamp set titled Hey Pumpkin.

I'm entering this card in to the following challenges:

Recipe Challenge - Die Cutting Divas - Ends November 10th (use 1  Ribbon/Twine, 2 Pattern Papers, 3 Pearls/Gems)

Anything Goes - Fantabulous Cricut Challenge - Ends November 9th

Football Challenge - Bitten by the Bug 2 - Ends November 9th

Anything Goes - DL Art - Ends November 30th

Until next time here are a couple of pictures from the race my son and I ran this weekend......

Not sure how far we trudged through this body of water
but it got chest high about half way through.

This is the wall we had to climb coming out of the water

That's my son in front of me

Our final 'obstacle' the fire pit.

Having some after race fun.

I Want Candy

Welcome to another PDE Linky Party Challenge.  This week begins a new challenge and a new format.  Beginning with this week's challenge we are now on a weekly rotation.  That means you have one week to play along with this week's challenge - Shaped Cards.

For my card I used:
  • Wild Cards cartridge for the card base
  • Life's a Party for the tombstone and then punched with a MS cracked edge punch
  • Zombie Squaredy Cat from SVG Cutting files
The stamped sentiment is from Peachy Keen Stamps.

And now that you've seen my take on this week's challenge be sure to check out the other designs our wonderful team has put together for you.  Then create your own shaped card, link up and play along with us.  Remember - you have until Monday, October 6th to link up and play along.

I can't wait to see what you create.

Got Brains?

Today I have a fun Halloween card I'd like to share with you.  I'm a huge Walking Dead fan so it only made since to create a fun card featuring this cute zombie from SVG Cutting Files.  The tombstones are from the Cricut cartridge Life's a Party.  I wanted to be able to stamp on them so I hide all the extra layers and contours.

The design of my card is based on the current sketch challenge over at Peachy Keen Stamps.  You can either follow the sketch or create a project based on the color palette posted at PKS or a combination of the two.  I chose to use just the sketch.

Other elements I used/added to this card include using the Martha Stewart drippy goo punch along the bottom edge of the border.  And I also placed my zombie on an action wobble.

The stamped sentiments (inside and out) are all from Peachy Keen Stamps.  I used two different sets:  Halloween Sentiments & Labels and Trio of Girl Ghosts.

I am entering this fun card in the following challenges:

No Monkeying Around....Be Mine

Happy Wednesday everyone.  I have some exciting news for you!  Cricut Cardz Challenge has changed its name to CRAFTY Cardz Challenge so that we can open up our challenges to include any cutting machine that is out on the market.  So that means you can use your Silhouette, Slice, Sizzix or any other machine to come play along with us....

This week it's all about cute critters - and of course Valentine's.  For this week's challenge I used the Life's a Party and Create a Critter cartridges for my card.   These cuts were great for this card because it made it one of those quick, easy and done in 30 minute cards.  And with all the Valentine things I've been working on I needed a card like that this week.  LOL

Now that you've seen my take on this week's challenge hop on over to Cardz TV to check out all of the other awesome designs our team put together for you.  Then after you've been amply inspired, create your own, link up and play along with us.

I'm also entering this one in to the Super Scraps Saturday challenge over at Hiding in My Craft Room.  So if you're using up scraps you should come play along there too.

Father's Day Pocket Card

With Father's Day only 12 days away I figured I best get a move on and start making my cards.  So far I have two of the three I need done and this is the first one I'd like to share with you.

My inspiration for this card was found in the pages of the May/June edition of Paper Crafts Magazine. (Check out their blog.)  The original version used dies from papertrey  ink and quickutz but I used my trusty 'ol Cricut:

Old West was used for the pocket.  I hid the little design on the pocket and I also cut a small rectangle to adhere to the top edge of the pocket as my 'flap'.

Graphically Speaking was used for the paper which I also embossed using the argyle cuttlebug folder.

Life's a Party was used for the glasses.  After cutting out the pieces I ran the face piece through my Xyron and adhered a frosted type acrylic to the die cut.

Birthday Easel Card

So last week my boss was talking about her birthday and how she's getting old so I decided to have some fun and make her somewhat of an over the hill birthday card.  To make it even more fun I decided to make it an easel card since I haven't made in what seems like forever.

For this card I used:

  • Life's a Party for the Buzzard.
  • Paper Doll Dress Up for the fence.  After cutting out the fence and drawing over the fence lines I also crinkled it up a bit before adhering it to the paper.
  • Zooballoo for the tufts of grass.  After removing the cut from the mat I cut down into individual tufts.
My sentiment was made using MS Word and I cut that out with a pair of scissors and then pop dotted it to the card.

Ahoy Matey - Stitch in Time Challenge

Happy Wednesday everyone.  I hope that you all had a delightful Valentine's day with your families and loved ones.

Today I'd like to share with a birthday card I made for the Cardz TV Challenge 102.  This week our directive was to make a card for any occasion of our liking and to either use real or faux stitching.  I had several ideas running through my head, but as I kept pulling this cartridge or that off the shelf I found myself uninspired.  For whatever reason my mojo has been off and nothing peaked my interest.  Not even the 'newer' carts I bought a while back and have still yet to use.  But then, I pulled down.............

Life's a Party.  I cut the treasure map at 4" and stitched over the 'X' - thus my stitch in time.

For the inside of the card I used the card feature for the treasure chest, cut at 2 1/2".  I cut and printed a rectangle to adhere inside the chest and added a couple of glue dots (not pictured) for keeping a gift card in place.  And to keep the chest closed I added a couple of brads and a piece of string so that I could wrap it around and viola it's closed.

To tie the card together I used paper from the DCWV mat stack All About Boys.

So now that you've seen my card be sure to pop on over to Cardz TV to check out all the other fabulous designs created by our team.  And then once you've been filled with inspiration create your own card and link up to play along with us.

Over What Hill?

I finally broke down and ordered a few new cartridges this week and was elated when I won Life's a Party for only $18 on ebay.  I've been toying with buying this one for some time but for that price I just couldn't pass it up..............and I'm glad I didn't!

Since my husband's on call this weekend we haven't really left the house and thus I've gotten a few cards made.  For this one I used Life's a Party for everything except the grass which I cut using Zooballoo.  I created the splatter effect using Distressed Ink in vintage photo and a brayer.  At first I wasn't sure if I liked how it looked but it's grown on me.

So what do you think?  Isn't this just a cute card?  Especially with that little buzzard sitting there looking things over.
