Where the Path May Lead - Stairstep Challenge

Happy Thursday everyone.  I have another challenge that I would like to share with you today.  This one is for Just a Scrappin, and our directive this week was to make a stair step card.

I went to work early on this one because I missed the last one by a day and with the potential of Isaac coming our way (I live in the NW Florida) I didn't want to chance missing it again this week.  So off I went soul searching for ideas when I came across a couple of leftover cuts I still had from some Boy Scout invitations I made for my sister back in 2009.

That's right ladies and gentlemen - never throw away a perfectly good die cut because you never know when you might be able to use it.  As a matter of fact I have a whole bucket just for leftover cuts and they're organized by "theme" too.  But I digress.....

With left over cuts in hand my stairstep card was born - I mean created.  For this one I used:

Camping out for the mountains cut as different sizes; and

Going Place for the hikers cut at 1 1/2"

The sky background with the sentiment is simply a rectangle that was cut and adhered to the very back "step" to help add even more depth/dimension to the card.  I gotta tell ya, I'm very pleased with the way this card turned out.

And now that you've seen my creation for this week's challenge, hop on over to Just A Scrappin to see the rest of the teams awesome work this week.  Then get your creative juices flowing and create a stairstep card, link up and play along with us.  I can't wait to see what you come up with.

Just A Scrappin Summer Fun Blog Hop

Welcome to the first ever Just A Scrappin Blog Hop! If you just hopped over from Scrapbooking and Card Making by Sherry, you're in the right place. If you're just stopping by for a visit and would like to hop along, go to Just A Scrappin so you can start at the beginning.

Our wonderful Design Team has pulled out all the stops and created some fabulous summer fun projects that I am sure will have you oohing and aahing along the way.  Of course with so many fun things to do this time of year it was hard to settle on just one thing to use as the focal point on my project.  However, I've been making quite a few summer projects lately so I decided to use one that I had not yet featured.

My husband and I have taken back up our new found love of cycling this summer.  We just started this 'hobby' last season so we haven't been doing it long.  But we are fortunate in that there are a few spots in our area where we can go and safely enjoy our currently 17 mile long rides and still have an adventure or two along the way.  Why a couple weeks ago as we were finishing our ride we had the pleasure of a Black Bear crossing our path.....Oh the fun of it all!

For this card I wanted a different fold than the usual straight down the middle, open it up and there it is  fold.  So I opted for the S-Fold.  To create the 'scene' on my card I used:

Graphically Speaking for the frame and the sun
Camping Critters for the squirrel on his bike

My background paper, which I just love is from My Little Shoebox and is called Playtime - Catch Me if You Can.  How fitting is that?

And the quote?  Well, let's just say I thought it was perfect as well.

Oh and let's not forget that I have a little blog candy to give away as well.  If you would like a chance to win the items pictured below leave me a comment telling me your favorite thing to do over the summer OR what kind of projects you like to create in the summer.  That's it.  You don't have to be a follower (even though followers are great I prefer to have them because people want to be) but you will have to remember to come back here on Wednesday, July 25th to see if you are the winner.

Blog Candy - Winner to be Announced 7/25/2012

And now be sure to hop over to Creating with the Heart to see the fabulous Summer Fun project Cindy has created to share with you.  And just in case you need it, here's the entire line-up for our Blog Hop.....

Me - You're already here ;o)

Hello Spring

Since yesterday was the first day of Spring I wanted to share with you a card that I made back a couple years ago.  This was the very first stair step card I made and I was so proud of the way it turned out.  For this card I used several cartridges including:

Paper Pups for the butterflies - cut at 3/4"

Stretch Your Imagination for the caterpillar - cut at 1"

Cricut Sampler (I don't have Walk in My Garden) for the flowers - cut at 2"

Zooballoo for the grass - cut at varying sizes for layering on the steps

Camp Out for the sign - cut at 2 1/2"

Animal Kingdom for the hello - cut at 1/2"

Needless to say once I finish getting my craft room put together (things have been crazy here and I should hopefully have it finished this weekend minus the new trim, carpet, etc.) I'm going to have to sit down and make some more of these kind of cards.  Especially now that the warm weather is back I'm feeling more 'motivated'.  LOL

Witch's Parking - Cricut Cardz Challenge #44

This week's challenge over at Cricut Cardz Challenge was to create an S or Z fold card with a Halloween theme using and colors and cartridge/s of our choosing.

The inspiration for this card came from a sign I saw at Michael's a couple weeks ago that said, "witch's parking only - all others will be toad".  To create this Halloween scene I used a variety of cartridges including:

A Child's Year - witches cut at 1 1/2"
Camp Out - sign scaled to 1/2" high
George - moon cut at 1 1/4"
Happy Hauntings - fence and ravens cut at 1"
Mini Monsters -  tree cut at 3" and toad scaled to .40" tall
PPDU - brooms scaled to .83" tall

Together all cuts were laid out on a 3" by 4 1/2" rectangle to create the scene.

And now it's your turn to play along.  Create your own Halloween themed S or Z fold card and upload it to Cricut Cardz Challenge for your chance to be entered into the grand prize drawing for October.

Direction

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all they way acknowledge him, and He shall direct thy paths."  Proverbs 3:5-6

After church yesterday this passage just popped into my head and I decided to create a simple card based on the Scripture.  So this afternoon I cut a compass from Camp Out and then as I was looking for the background paper I found some I forgot I had.  Making it even more interesting as I was getting ready to cut the piece I needed I noticed that the very same Scripture I was using as my sentiment was on the paper I chose.

Hello Spring Flower Garden

This week's Cricut Cardz Challenge was to create a spring themed card using flower, butterflies and/or birds. Well I used two out of three so that wasn't too bad. I also tried a new card fold - the side step, and I don't mind telling you that I had a lot of fun with this one. I found the side step to be more creator friendly than just the step card so you'll see more of these in the future.

For this card though I used several cartridges:

Paper Pups for the butterflies - cut at 3/4"

Stretch Your Imagination for the caterpillar - cut at 1"

Cricut Sampler (I don't have Walk in My Garden) for the flowers - cut at 2"

Zooballoo for the grass - cut at varying sizes for layering on the steps

Camp Out for the sign - cut at 2 1/2"

Animal Kingdom for the hello - cut at 1/2"

High Flyin' Halloween

Here's another one that I made this week.

For this one I used A Child's Year for the flying witch - 2"

Camp out for the sign hanging from the tree branch - 3/4"

PPDU for the tree - 3 1/2", cauldron 2" and the moon/stars - 1"

The glitter background doesn't show up well in the pics since the sky is really shades of black and orange topaz but at least you get the idea...

Camp Out Masculine Bday - Card Challenge #8

Preoccupied said, ..."I'd love to see some manly cards from the Camp Out cart. My husband loves four wheeling and fishing so that would be great or any other cut..."

For this card I used:

Camp Out for the trees, fishing pole, fish, squirrels and cooler

Graphically Speaking for the pond

PPDU for the man

I'm really pleased with the way that this card turned out. I think it's one of my favorites thus far. But once I'm done with all 30 cards I will let each of you decide which one is your favorite. That's right - there's another contest (of sorts) around the corner........
And in case you haven't noticed by now, for whatever reason I tend to enjoy creating scenery type cards.

Hello Kitty Graduation Pop Up Card

My oldest daughter is getting ready to gradute in a couple weeks from the community college she's been attending in Brunswick, GA and has been accepted to Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the ceremony as my other daughter is in exams with her honors classes here at home. So I wanted to create a special card and set about last night on the design and cutting and finished putting it all together this morning.
For this card I used the following cuts:

Hello Kitty & cap - 4" (outfit cut to be in the school colors)

Hello Kitty in car - 3 1/2"

Tree from Camp Out - 4 3/4"

Sun from Pooh & Friends - 1 1/2"
Pennant from Locker Talk - 1 3/4" (cut to be in the school colors)

The road was created simply by cutting a stip of black paper the length of the card and then notching to fit around the pop up pieces so that it would slide in to the center of the card for placement.

Boy Scout Banquet Invitations

My nephew just passed his test/s to achieve the highest rank possible and his parents are putting together a banquet to celebrate. My sister asked if I would create the invitations because she didn't like any of the cards she saw so I asked her what she was looking for and this is what we came up with.

For this card I used:

the mountains cut as different sizes from Camping Out, .

the hiker cut at 1 1/2" from Going Places

the "patch" was cut from Accent Essentials at 1" and then sized smaller to fit my needs

The oath was created in MS Word

Boyscout Layout

My grandad used to be a Scout Leader before he passed away a few years ago. Every summer he taught the boys marksmanship during the summer camps and this pic is the last one that was taken right before his health took a rapid decline.

This was very easy to create and I based this layout on a card prototype that I am working on for my sister. Once that project is complete I will share it with you.

When Life Hands You Lemons

I got the idea for this card during one of my awake times the other night; however, while putting it together I realized that I still have a lot to learn when trying to modify certain cuts.

There's not really anything special to this one just a lot of cutting, inking and strategic placement.
