Happy Birthday Elmo

My granddaughter had her first birthday this past weekend.  She's a huge Elmo fan and so I, of course, had to make an Elmo birthday card for her.  Now I will be honest and admit that I almost forgot about her birthday card.  I was so busy helping with altering buckets and bins and signs that it wasn't until I got her present wrapped and I realized I had no card.

I quickly turned to one of my FB groups where so many of us share files, searching for anything Elmo.  However, I could not find what I needed.  So then I turned to Google.  Surely there had to be a coloring page that I could use.  One that would be easy enough to trace, cut and piece back together.

Time of course was also a precious commodity since all of this happened within a hour of our having to leave home.  You see, our daughter needed our help in decorating the pavilion before everyone arrived.  Something that I was more than happy to oblige.  After all it's our granddaughter's first birthday!!

As I searched through the images on Google there were several birthday pages, but I was afraid they would require more time than I had.  Instead I opted for a simple Elmo without all the birthday fan fare.  He traced, cut and pieced back together beautifully.

Fortunately I had a large enough scrap of this birthday paper to use for my background.  That helped to create the needed birthday theme.  Add in a couple of blinging hearts and my card is complete.

And the party was a success.  🎉

Sesame Street Party Prep

When your granddaughter turns one year old, and your daughter asks you to help get things made for party décor you do it.  And sometimes the good ol' Dollar Tree comes in rather handy for such an occasion.  My daughter stopped in the Dollar Tree by her house and had little success in finding the colored "bins" we needed for different characters.  However, when we stopped in the one by where she works we had better success.

Using files that were shared in one of my FB groups I turned these bins into different characters.  I'm not sure what all my daughter will put in these but I know at least some of them will be food holders.

While scouring Pintrest for other ideas I came across one using the Dr. Seuss book Happy Birthday to You! as a guest sign in book.  I loved this idea so much that I went in search of a similar book for Sesame Street.  You can imagine my excitement when I found the Happy Birthday!: A Birthday Party Book by Sesame Workshop.

When I arrived back home from picking up the book I started searching for pictures I could use for the sign telling everyone to sign her book.  That's when I came across The Printable Party Shop.  This blog has free printables available for download and so I downloaded a couple of the items including this sign.  Well, actually it's an invitation but I altered it a bit and added the verbiage I needed to create the sign.

Now I just need to get the other items printed so we can finish putting it all together and then next week I'll share pictures with you showing how we set it all up.

Owl Post

Today I'm sharing a fun, magical card with you.  I made this one using the Harry Potter file from Treasure Box Designs.

My background was made using scraps of my 9 3/4 print papers that I found in my stash.  The grey paper I distressed using my Tim Holtz paper distresser.

Then using stamps from the My Favorite Wizard stamp set by Jaded Blossom, I stamped my sentiment and added a little lightning bolt to my owl.  I also used this same stamp set for the inside of my card.

And now I'm off to enter my card into the following challenge:

Hiding in My Craft Room - Masculine - Ends May 27th

Tangled Birthday

Today I am sharing a birthday card that I made using the Princess (Rosana) file from Treasure Box Designs.  She is another in the line of princess cards I've been making, and after piecing her together I thought she'd be perfect for giving to a little princess on her birthday.

As you can see on this card I opted for using a few crystal gems on my flowers.  I thought this would add the perfect touch of bling.  After all it is a princess card.

The background paper is from the DCWV mat stack Once Upon A Time.  This time I chose a paisley print which I thought complimented Rosana's outfit.

The stamped sentiment is from the Jaded Blossom stamp set titled Coworkers.

Super Birthday Wishes

I am happy to announce that today I am a guest designer over at Die Cuttin Divas.  This week it's Challenge #310 and Anything Goes.

For my project I decided to create a special birthday card for my I Run 4 Buddy who's birthday is this week.  I Run 4 is a group where runners are paired up with those who are unable to get out there an run.  So those of us who can run or just love being active get out there and do it for them.  When we do organized races such as our Spartans or marathons we send them a medal from that race.  And when we're just out there in the gym or hiking or whatever we let them know that we were out there getting it done - in their honor.

Now back to my card.  My Run 4 buddy is a big fan of Superman so I decided to use the Superman from the Super Chubbies Super Heroes file from Marjorie Ann Designs on his card.  Of course Superman has to stand out and for that I thought this paper from the Little Man mat stack from Paper House would be perfect.

To finish off my card I used the Super Hero 2 stamp set from Jaded Blossom for my sentiment.  On each side of the sentiment I added a single red skittle from DoubleClick Connections.

Now that you've seen my project for this week's challenge, be sure to create your own (remember Anything Goes), link up and play along with us.  We can't wait to see what you create.

Hello Birthday Girl

I have several birthdays coming up in my family over the next week - my twin sisters and my dad.  So today I'd like to share with you a birthday card that I've created.

For this card I used the Birthday Wishes file from Pretty Paper, Pretty Ribbon.  If you haven't checked out the cut files being offered here you're really missing out.  I've used a few of them and they've all been great and easy to piece together.  This one included.
The stamped sentiment I chose for this card is from the Jaded Blossom stamp set titled Hello Hello.

And now I'm off to enter my card into the following challenges:

Designer Paper x3 - Hiding in My Craft Room - Ends September 24th

PPR Linky Party - Pretty Paper, Pretty Ribbons - Ends October 1st

September Linky Party - DL Art - Ends September 30th

Birthdays - Die Cuttin Divas - Ends September 25th

Cake Smash

I've been quiet lately, working away on a cross stitched baby quilt for my granddaughter Ocean.  Now that the quilt is done it's time to work on the next item for her nursery.  First though I thought I'd sit down and make a birthday card.

This card was made using the Cake Smash Birthday Boy file from Marjorie Ann Designs.  I also used the Party Animal stamp set from Jaded Blossom and some red skittles from DoubleClick Connections.

My party hat and celebrate papers are from the Eat Cake mats stack by Paper Studio.

Birthday Latte

Today I have another birthday card to share with you.  One of my daughter's is having a birthday next week.  It's going to be a bit more difficult to celebrate her birthday this year since she's over in Africa with several other colleagues from the CDC.  They are all there working on the Ebola response.  Some are there for a brief time, but my daughter is there for a year, coming home for a short time once a quarter.  But she will be there on her birthday so we are sending a care package with some of her favorite things - including coffee.

So for her birthday card I decided to use this cute cat with his coffee cup that I obtained during the SVG Cutting Files Let's Stick Together Blog Hop from back in 2014.  Those files were only available during the time of the hop.

The stamped sentiment is from the recently released stamp set Coffee Break from Jaded Blossom.

I also used latte colored skittles from Doubleclick Connections.

Birthday Legos

I belong to a group called I Run 4 and last year I was matched up with my wonderful buddy.  His birthday is next week and he loves to play with Legos so I decided to make him a lego themed birthday card to go with his birthday gift that I'm sending to him.

To make my card I used the Building Imaginations file from Marjorie Ann Designs.   On the outside of the card I paper pieced but on the inside I used the print 'n cut feature using the clip art that's included with every file.

The stamped sentiment on my card is from the Craftin Desert Divas stamp set titled Say it Big.

Intergalactic Birthday Wishes

Happy Friday everyone and welcome the another Cardz TV 3D challenge.  For the next couple of weeks we are challenging you to create a 3D birthday card.  So get your thinking caps on, but first let me share with you my take on the challenge.

For my card I used this cute little Alien Poo from the Poopeez line at SVG Cutting Files.  I absolutely love the characters in this line and have a lot of fun with them.

Now the 3D portion of my card is on the inside, and for this I used the A2 Pop Out Card from Lori Whitlock.  This is a file that you can purchase from the Silhouette Design Store.

My printed papers are all coordinating papers from the Cosmic Whammy mat stack by the Paper Studio.

The stamped sentiments are from two different Cardz TV Stamps sets.  On the outside I used Up and Away on the outside of my card.  On the inside I used Good Times.

And now that you've seen my take on this week's challenge be sure to check out all the other wonderful designs our team has created for you this week.  Then after you've been amply inspired, create your 3D card, link up and play along with us.  I look forward to seeing what you create.

Everyday Paper Dolls for the glasses on Goofy

Mickey Font for the Gawrsh sentiment

Tags, Bags, Boxes and More for the tag

And now I'm off to enter my card into the following challenge:

Over the Hill - Reaper Style

Happy Friday everyone.  Today I have a fun over the hill card to share with you.  Needless to say, whoever receives this card will have to have a pretty good sense of humor.

I found this cute little grim reaper cut over at Cuddly Cute Designs.  I've never really used her files before this one and must say it was really easy to put together.

The three skeleton tabs/tags/tape I have on the card were created using the recently released Halloween Designer Tapes stamp set by Jaded Blossom.  And then I also decided to add a couple of skittles from the Back to School release at DoubleClick Connections.

Birthday Wish

I have a birthday card that I would like to share with you today.  This one features those infamous red slippers from the Wizard of Oz.

For my card I used the Wonderful Wizard Friends file from Too Cute by Jessica.  Since I was using the shoes for the focus of my card and the slippers were glitzy I wanted to try using different style papers to help my shoes look similar.  Unfortunately it shows up better in real life than it does in the picture.  But I used a combination of glitter, foil and plain papers for the various pieces of the shoes.

Then I wanted to kind of pull in that brick road feel so I embossed a piece of gold metallic paper and used it as an accent paper on my card.  Add a couple of red skittles from DoubleClick Connections, and a stamped sentiment from the Yellow Brick Road stamp set from Jaded Blossom and there you have it.  A birthday wish card.

Unbirthday Treat Set

Today I'd like to share a fun unbirthday treat set I created.  With the recently released Wonderland stamp sets from Jaded Blossom and the Alice in Wonderland files from Marjorie Ann Designs this was a perfect pairing.

To create the coffee treat holder I used these cute little 4oz coffee cups and matching lids that I purchased here.  The templates for the cup wrappers can be printed  from here.

To cover the lid I cut 2" circles using the Cricut cartridge George, but obviously anything that cuts a 2" circle will work.

For the carrier use a sturdy piece of 12" x 12" paper.
  • Cut one piece 4" x 6 3/4"  Score all 4 sides at 1"
  • Cut along two opposite sides of the score lines up to where they intersect and then snip the corners diagonally.
  • Now assemble the box.
  • To add more stability cut a piece of chipboard 2" x 4 1/2" and set aside
To create the handle, using that same 12" x 12" paper:
  • Cut a 1 7/8" x 11" piece.  Score at 1 1/2", 5 1/2" and 9 1/2"
  • Fold in half and glue together down to the score lines for the 'flaps'
  • Use an oval or circle punch to make a hole for carrying
  • Set aside
Use remaining paper to cover the piece of chipboard you cut.  Glue the chipboard to the bottom of the box.  Then glue the handle to the piece of chipboard.

For the potion bottle tag, I used a scalloped circle frame from the Cricut Cartridge Wild Card.  I hide the interior circle contour and then cut the size needed to fig the potion.  The potion bottle, cupcake and the two print n cut images on the top of the cups are all from the Alice in Wonderland file from Marjorie Ann Designs.

My card was made using the same cut file.  To add a bit of shimmer to the card I cut the crown from a gold metallic paper.  I also decided to use some glossy accents on the whites of the eyes and the heart on the lips.

And now I'm off to enter this project into the following challenges:

Jaded Blossom Crafter's Choice challenge - Ends August 1st

DoubleClick Connections Disney Theme - Ends August 4th

DL Art August Linky Party - Ends August 31st

Party Pig Birthday

Today I'm taking a small break from the food punnies so that I can bring you this adorable birthday card.  This little party pig is ready to get her party on with her candle on the head and yummy cupcake.

I used the You're Such A Party Animal - Pig card from Marjorie Ann Designs.  Of course you probably already guessed that because of all the cuteness overload.  As usual this was a fun and easy card to piece together.  I added a little bit of embossing to the "frosting" so it would look a bit more "fluffy".

The stamped sentiment on my card is from the Say it Big stamp set by Craftin Desert Divas.  On the inside of my card (not pictured) I used a sentiment from the Just Pigcause stamp set.  It says "have a swine day".

And now I'm off to enter this card into the following challenge:

Craftin Desert Divas - Birthday Linky Party - Ends July 19th

DL Art - Anything Goes (July Challenge) - Ends July 31st

Party Hardy.....Mario Style

So my oldest son is a huge video game fanatic.  He collects and plays all kinds of video games.  Including all the old, original Nintendo NES games.....you know those big, gray, brick looking cartridges.  Anyhow when I saw this new Mario Brothers file over at Marjorie Ann Designs I knew I had to use it to create a birthday card for my son.

To make things even better this file comes with clip art ready for importing into Design Studio for use with the print 'n cut feature.  And since I was short on time that's exactly what I did.

My card base though was created using the Sunflower Treat Cup Girl Card from SVG Cutting Files.  Admittedly when I put this card together for the first time I had an oopsie with placing the treat cup properly.  Since there was nothing wrong with the card itself I decided to save it for later use.  Glad I did too because it worked beautifully for this birthday card.

And here's a view of the inside of my card with more goodies from the Mario Brothers file...

My stamped sentiments are from the Cardz TV Stamps set titled Good Times.

Birthday Balloons

Today I have a fun birthday card that I'd like to share with you.  This is another of the shaped cards from Marjorie Ann Designs and this one is called Baby Panda Birthday

I had a sheet of birthday themed, double sided paper in my stash so I used that as my card base.  Since the inside of the card had all these stars I decided to cut a few extra ones like what's on the Panda's hat - only larger.  I then adhered these onto the white stars.

The stamped sentiment on both the outside and inside of my card are from Calling All Superheroes from Craftin Desert Divas.

Happy Birthday Sassy Pants

Today I have a fun birthday card to share with you.   It's kind of like a two for one card.  It's a card and a treat all in one spot.

To create my card I used a couple of different files from SVG Cutting Files:  Sunflower Treat Cup Girl Card and Potty Pooper.  I know, I know.  Sounds nasty right?  But I bet you thought it was cute before you found out the name of this cute little guy who's part of the Poopeez collection.  My boys (who are ages ranging from 17 to 24) carry on and crack jokes about bathroom antics so when I saw these files I admit there were several that I purchased.  After all they are cute in their own way and you don't really know what they are until you're told.

So to create my card I used one of the treat cups from Stamping Up.  However, these were discontinued a while back and I remember hearing about it so I joined in and purchased a couple of boxes before they were gone.  Now I have heard that Wilton Candies makes a mold that will also work with this card base but that you might need to resize the card to fit the mold.

After I adhered my treat cup to the front of the card base and then adhered the top layer, I turned my card over and wondered how I was supposed to make the inside layer work for my treat flap.  Then I realized that all I needed to do was draw a faint line around where my flap would fit when fully inserted and apply my adhesive around that.  Viola! My flap moves in and out perfectly to reveal the fun candy treat inside.

To compliment my Potty Pooper character I decided to use some of the fun sentiments from the Jaded Blossom stamp set titled Sassy Pants.  Here's the inside of my card....

And now I'm going to enter this card in to the following challenge:

SVG Cutting Files - All About Boys - Ends July 14th
