Witch's Parking - Cricut Cardz Challenge #44

This week's challenge over at Cricut Cardz Challenge was to create an S or Z fold card with a Halloween theme using and colors and cartridge/s of our choosing. 

The inspiration for this card came from a sign I saw at Michael's a couple weeks ago that said, "witch's parking only - all others will be toad".  To create this Halloween scene I used a variety of cartridges including:

A Child's Year - witches cut at 1 1/2"
Camp Out - sign scaled to 1/2" high
George - moon cut at 1 1/4"
Happy Hauntings - fence and ravens cut at 1"
Mini Monsters -  tree cut at 3" and toad scaled to .40" tall

PPDU - brooms scaled to .83" tall

Together all cuts were laid out on a 3" by 4 1/2" rectangle to create the scene.

Happy Holidays

This is a card that I created for one of the Santa Slacker's challenges over on the Cricut MB.  We were given a specific sketch to follow and had to use one of our Christmas carts.

I decided to go with a little bit more of a distressed type look.  I used Stretch Your Imagination for the Christmas tree and Christmas Cheer for the gift.  The background square used for the gift was distressed along the edges using the Tim Holtz paper distresser.  For a little bling, I applied glitter to the gift bow and used gold stickles for the 'ornaments' on the tree.

Gift Tag Christmas Card

When I received my new Thanksgiving cart I saw this flourish frame and just had to find a use for it other than as a name tag for a place setting. So I created a gift tag with it and then used the gift tag as the "theme" for my greeting card.


For this card I started by using Broken China distress ink and a cosmetic sponge to ink the entire surface of the tag.  I then adhered the flourish frame cut, the baby doll cut from Christmas Solutions and the words "to" and "from" cut from A Child's Year. 

Glad We Wound Up Together

My poor hubby needed some cheering up the other day so I decided to make a card for him.  His favorite holiday is Halloween and I thought why not use that as a theme for my card?  Especially since I've been wanting to use this sentiment for quite some time now.

For this card I used:

Sweethearts for the hearts

And the font is the spooky font from Happy Hauntings welded together to create my words.

With Sympathy

Sympathy cards are always the most difficult cards to make.  However, I have another simple card to share with you today.

For this one I used Accent Essentials for the scalloped and regular ovals and Wild Cards for the sentiment.  The background was embossed using the Cuttlebug script folder.

Nursery Rhyme Baby Cards

I broke down and finally purchased the Nursery Rhymes cartridge a few days ago.  I've had this paper which screams Nursery Rhymes (wonder why?  ) so I had to sit down and play.  Each one of the cards has a different sentiment inside using the various phrases from this cart. 

Other than that I did use Accent Essentials for the Scalloped Circles and the background paper on the inside of the card.

These were very easy to put together....don't you just love easy cards?  But like the Child's Year cart this one will have to grown on me a little bit since it's all silhouettes - and I don't think that's going to be hard to do.

Now I just need to break out my Toy Story cart and decide what I'm going to do with it first.  What do you think I should do?  Any ideas?

Wisdom - Ecclesiastes 7:12

Today's card is a very simple one.  One cut, that's it.  See?  Told you it was easy. 

Actually, I let this scrap of paper do all the work for me.  As I was reading the Scriptures on the paper the word "wisdom" was repeated a couple of times and it hit me that I should use that as the "theme" for the card. 

Now that that was decided it was time to find the perfect cut.  Something that would compliment and not detract from the Scriptures - I wanted the words to stand out.  That meant I needed a silhouette.  I reached for  A Child's Year and as I flipped through the choices I saw this cut of a child sitting, reading a book....

It was perfect - for me it was like a child - anyone - sitting down to read the Bible.  A truly perfect reflection of the Scriptures presented on this card.

Bird Song - Friendship Card

I love the way that this card turned out with the colors and background paper combination.  It doesn't show up very well but the bird cage was painted with distressed paint and then lightly inked over to give it a slightly shabby chic kinda look.  But before I ramble on too much about techniques used I guess I should tell you that I've had this Sizzix die for a while.  In fact it's the first Tim Holtz die I purchased and yet I could never really figure out what I was going to use to accent it along the bottom or what bird cut I wanted to use.  I mean there's a bird on the die but I wanted something a little different. 

So this week I was creating another card and came across this bird cut on the Home Decor cart and thought it would be perfect.  Then I cut the birdcage out of grungeboard to give it some dimension and as I said painted it.  The silver balls and chain were  from a set that I picked up at Michael's on sale only the "rings" on the chain weren't big enough to use for dangles along the bottom of the cage so I opted to merely glue the balls themselves to the cage.

The inside sentiment for this card is a Chinese Proverb that says: A bird does not sing because it has an answer.  It sings because it has a song.

Boo House

This week's challenge for Cricut Cardz Challenge was to create a halloween card using the card feature from any cartridge we desired along with any color scheme we choose.  Of course there was always the card features on the Mini Monsters cartridge, but that's too easy.  So I pulled several other carts off my shelf - looked at the options offered and when I saw the house on Wild Card I knew I had to use that one.  And after I made the house cut I was ecstatic because I didn't realize that the door would cut so that it could open and close.  Yippee!!!

So for this card, I made the following cuts:

House from Wild Card cut at 5 1/4"

Spider web from Wild Card cut at 1"

Ghosts, Cat and Boo! from Happy Hauntings cut at 1"
Spider from Designer's Calendar cut at 1"

My ghosts were cut from velum and then inked lightly with a blue ink to help them stand out on the card while remaining "translucent".  Of course the one on the rooftop shows up better in the photos than the one on the inside....Oh well.

The cat and the spider were flocked to add a little texture to the card. 

Birthday Flower

Today's card is a variation of one I made quite some time ago.  However, I changed the way that I put it all together and I like the way that this one turned out better.  The only cut for this card is the flower from the Garden of Words cart. 

I started by printing the words happy birthday across a square that I cut from a sheet of paper.  This piece was then centered on my cutting mat related to where I had the top cut placed in Design Studio.  I then cut the flower in three different sizes (sorry don't remember what they were), layered them one on top of the other and then added a flower button to the middle.  Oh, also gently lifted the flower petals up to give them more of a dimensional look/feel.

Yet another simple card with a great look.

Give Thanks

I was so hoping that my new carts (Thanksgiving and Toy Story) would arrive in today's mail so I could play with them, but it was not meant to be.  ::::::::looooonnnnngggg sigh:::::::::::::::  Oh well, at least I still had plenty of other carts to play with, right?  :o)

Since my new cart didn't come I decided to play with Create a Critter.  I cut my turkey out at 4" and flocked everything except the hat.  I also cut out an extra set of "feathers" at 4" for the inside of the card.  I ran those through with the cracked glass embossing folder, inked with pumpkin distressed ink and then glued the words Give Thanks on them for the sentiment.

Another easy enough card that I think turned out great.

Christmas Ornament

I've been on a little bit of a card making spree the past couple of days and now it's time to get some of them uploaded to my blog.  This first one is for the Santa Slackers challenge going on over on the Cricut MB.  And while I didn't follow the sketch to a tee it was the basis for this card's design.

For this one I used Joys of the Season for the ornament and verbiage.
I also used A Child's Year for the silhouette.

On the hanger portion of the ornament I painted with distressed paint and then inked with distressed ink in fire brick red.  I love the way that it added a common thread to the background paper I chose to use.

All in all a simple card, but I like the way that it turned out.

Frolicking Reindeer

There are so many fun challenges going on this week that I'm staying busy trying to keep up with them all.  Today I found one posted on the Cricut MB titled the Santa Slackers challenge.  For this one we were given a specific card sketch and were told to make a 5 1/4" square card using Winter Woodland.  And this is what I came up with......

The reindeer were cut at 2" and I painted the antlers with white distressed paint then inked lightly with distressed ink in tea color.  I then pop-dotted them to the card to add some dimension.

The trees were cut at 4" and flocked for texture.  I also tried my hand at using flowersoft for the snow and I think I have some learning to do there. 

The cardinal was cut at 1"

I don't know that it shows up all that great but the "snow" on the ground was painted with Shimmerz in Pixie Dust to give a little bling.

Unknown Blessings

This week's cricutcardzchallenge - #40 was to create a card using scalloped circles, squares, ovals or rectangles.  I chose to go with scalloped circles as the card that I had originally created for this challenge using rectangles just didn't seem to really meet the criteria.  So I scratched it - not really, I just didn't use it for this challenge (see my Beware card below).

For this one I used:

A Child's Year for the Pilgrims cut at 3"
Accent Essentials for the scalloped circles cut at 4" and 3 1/2"
Designer's Calendar for the turkey cut at 1 1/2"
