Gawrsh - It's Your Birthday

Who doesn't love a good birthday?  Especially when there's a fun, classic character like Goofy dropping in to help you celebrate.

For today's card I used the following Cricut cartridges:

Mickey and Friends for Goofy

Everyday Paper Dolls for the glasses on Goofy

Mickey Font for the Gawrsh sentiment

Tags, Bags, Boxes and More for the tag

And now I'm off to enter my card into the following challenge:

Die Cuttin Divas - Kids' Theme - Ends February 21st

Forever, You and Me

This is a card that I made some time ago.  My inspiration for the card came from a picture I saw of a bathroom scene complete with his and hers towels hanging on the wall. Isn't it great the things that kick our creative juices in to high gear?

For the front of my card I used:
Sweethearts - for the you & me cut
Every Day Paper Dolls - for the bathtub, bubbles and towels
Paper Pups - for the dog
George - for the "towel bar"

My "tiles" are 1" squares that I cut on my paper trimmer

For the inside of my card I used:
Home Decor - for the word Forever

Indie Art - for the lips

Unfortunately the lips don't show up very well in the picture, but they were cut from a shimmering card stock so as to give that appearance of lip gloss.

Three Rules for A Happy Thanksgiving

You know those Chic fil A commercials where the cows encourage you to eat more chicken?  Well today I want to share a card that I made back when I first got in to paper crafting.  Instead of cows though we have a disguised turkey encouraging us to eat anything but turkey for Thanksgiving.

I had a lot of fun creating this card and since it's been a while I think it's one that I'll need to see about recreating and updating.  Now to find the time to do that.......

In the meantime though, here's what I used for this one.

Animal Kingdom for the Turkey - cut at 3 3/4"
PPDU for the hat and collar - both scaled to the sizes I needed to fit my turkey
Everyday PPD for the glasses - also scaled to the size needed
George - to create the sign, I used two of the shapes and welded them together
George for the numbers - cut at 3/4"

And for a little added fun this Thanksgiving check out the projects the design team made over at Hiding in my Craft Room.  They're cute, cute, cute, and I think I'll play along with them.

Test? Who's Got Time For That?

School is quickly approaching (one month to go) and that means it's time to start making all of those back to school projects the kids hate and moms everywhere are anxious to delve into.  Today I wanted to share a card with you.  This one focuses on those pesky tests we all love to hate, but this one is designed to have a little funny encouragement.....
For my project I used:
Locker Talk for:
the Desk cut at 3 1/2"
the Paper cut at 1"
the Pencil scaled down to less than an 1"

PPDU for the boy cut at 3"

Everyday PPD for the shoes cut at 3"

Plantin Schoolbook for the numbers/symbols scaled down to about 3/4" tall and welded together.

The inside sentiment says:
As long as teachers give tests, there will always be prayer in schools.

Dressed up Dad

Happy Wednesday everyone.  Today I have another Father's Day card to share with you, and once again this card was inspired by one in the pages of the May/June issue of Paper Crafts magazine.  Only this time the inspiration was in the form of a digital card.  I wish I could show you the original card, but you'll have to check out the magazine instead.....

For my card though I used:

Pooh Font Set for the font
Billionaire for the moustaches and tie
Everyday Paper Dolls for the hat (cut twice so I could have a different colored hat band)

Quick, easy and I do believe one of my favorite cards yet.

Fun in the Sun

This week's Cricut Cardz Challenge was to use a summer apparel or accessory cut from any cartridge.  I thought, and I thought about this one but I kept drawing a blank as to what I could really do with summer apparel.  Problem was nothing came to mind.  Sooooo, I chose to use "accessories".

For this card I used Life's a Beach for the umbrella and the adirondack chair.  Everyday Paper Dolls was used for the towel and the beach ball is just a sticker I found in my stash.

My 'beach front' was made using sand paper to give it a more textured look and feel.  Being from the Panhandle of Florida where we have some of the World's Most Beautiful Beaches I would have loved it even more if I could find white sandpaper.  Oh well..........

Out of This World Bday

This is another card that I did for a challenge.  However, this one called for following a sketch.  And me being me - I didn't want to create a card using the obvious cuts.  You know - a hat (like in the sketch) or a tree.  I wanted to try something different.  Something that didn't have to be an exact triangular shape but perhaps similar.  So after some thinking I chose the rocket ship from Everyday Paper Dolls.
The ship and the planet at the tip are both pop dotted for a layered look.  And the "fire" coming out of the ship is actually the shooting star from Everyday Paper Dolls that was coated with lemon drop and orange sorbet glitter from the MS line.

And this is the sketch we were asked to base our card from.

It's a Germy Get Well

This week's Cricut Cardz Challenge  (#35 for those keeping track) was to create a get well card using any cartridge we wanted.  The catch was that we could only use the colors blue, green, black and white.

Well, anyone who knows me and/or follows my blog probably knows by now that I enjoy creating cards with "scenes" and lean towards the cutesy rather than the elegant/serious style.  So being limited to those colors I pondered the decision on what to do.  At this point all I knew was that I wanted to somehow create "germs" like you see in the comical advertisements and PSA's.  After some thinking and playing around this card is what I came up with.

The "germs"  are from Mini Monsters and were cut at 1 3/4" and were pop dotted to the card so as to appear like they were hovering above the bed.

The bed and girl lying in it were created from Everyday Paper Dolls - cut at 3".  The blanket is a swatch of fabric that I tucked into the foot board and then adhered to the card using 3D glue dots to mimic the girl's body and then a line of glue at each edge.

I think that the next time I make this card though I'll need to make my "germs" just a wee bit smaller.

Are We There Yet?

It's been a crazy week yet again so I'm a little late getting my card for this week's Cricut Cardz Challenge posted.  Our mission this week was to create a card with a vacation theme using any cartridges we wanted.

At first I started thinking about destinations.  You know theme park, beach, any number of tourist traps.  But then it hit me.  Whenever a family goes on vacation what question inevitably gets asked time and time again?  You got it........."Are we there yet?"  And so my card was born.

For this one I used:

Everyday Paper Dolls for the road and the van
Going Places for the sun, camper and inside sentiment

The inking on my vehicles leaves a little to be desired otherwise it didn't turn out too bad.

What's Up

I made this card a week ago with just the vehicle and surf board and every time I looked at it I knew it was missing something.  So, I set the card on the table in front of me so that whenever I sat at the computer I had to see it.

Today, I was cleaning and organizing the container that has the Sizzix cuts I made over the winter when I came across the girl in the hula skirt.  Of course I had to see if it would work and I believe that it does.  What do you think?

Graduation Announcements

I have finally completed the order I had for graduation announcements.  Fortunately it was for a family member so that allowed me a little extra time.  By the time all was said and done though I created three different style cards.

The school bus card was made using Doodlecharms for the bus cut at 4", Every day paperdolls for the heads and graduation caps cut at 2", and Mickey Font for the school's acronym welded and cut at 3/4".

The Hello kitty card was made using only Hello Kitty cut at 4".

The time card was made using Graphically Speaking for the clock face and the word time.  I'm sorry but I don't remember the sizes I used for this one.

Relay for Life Crafts

The Activities Director for our resort is the co-chair for our Relay for Life team and she asked me if I could create a few cards to be raffled off at the survivors luncheon.  She loved the walking ribbon card that I did a while back so i decided to re-create that one and decorate the inside with something simple.

Once I got those finished I decided to put together a gift basket as well using one of my sock cupcakes that she fell in love with as well.  I found the basket for just a couple dollars on sale at Michael's yesterday and knew it would be perfect for this.  I just love how it turned out and the card I made for the Cricut Cardz Challenge this week went with it perfectly.

What does disappoint me though is that none of the pictures of my cards did them justice.  Every one of them just washed all the colors out.  Don't ask me why the difference in those pics vs. the one of the basket but what's done is done.

St. Patrick's Day Pooh Style & Blog Candy

Good evening everyone. Today's theme for Cricut Cardz Challenge was to create a St. Patrick's day card using any cartridge we wanted. Then earlier this week I found a new technique on Splitcoaststampers that I wanted to try called the Folded Paper Frame. So I thought and thought about how I could combine the two together and as I was looking through my carts - Eureka! it hit me.

So here's my card - only you can't tell from the picture that it really has dimension to it. I pop dotted the frame all around as well as Pooh so that it looks like he's really propped up in a window frame.

Where's the blog candy you ask?

Here's the deal. Last year I went through a creative slump and with all the stress from work and cold weather keeping me away from my Cricut I feel like I'm there again. So I need you to help me out.

To enter for a chance to win - Don't worry you don't have to become a follower - just look over the list of cartridges I own and then leave a comment with the following direction/s:

  1. Name of cartridge you want to see me use in my design

  2. Which cut/s on the cartridge to use

  3. Theme (i.e. encouragement, birthday, etc.)

  4. Do you have a particular style of card you want me to try (S-fold, Pedestal, etc)

  5. Your Cricut MB name, a link to your blog or email address (so that I can message you if you are one of the winners)

Entries must be submitted by commenting on this specific post NO LATER THAN midnight March 14th

I will choose the winner at random on March 15th using random.org and will then contacted the winner for their mailing address.

In the meantime, here's a pic of what you could win......

Raining Hearts

This is a card that I created for dh for Valentine's Day and I chose this format as a project challenge for one of my card groups. I actually designed part of this card using my Gypsy and part of it using Design Studio. The reason for that was because I wanted to use the Gypsy font cartridge for the main heart and the only way to do that was to use my Gyspsy itself.

My other cuts are as follows:

Child's Year for the umbrella - cut 3x for the dimension and the handle

Every Day Paper Dolls for the monkey

Home Decor for my "raining" hearts

Crawling Baby Blocks

I have been busy creating cards for various challenges this past week and while I wish that I could share them with you all now you'll have to wait for them to be revealed when the time comes.

But, I just finshed a "New Arrival" - Congratulations card. Unfortunately, the pictures I took with both the camera and my scanner just do not do it justice as the patterned paper is glittery with pinks and greens that don't really show up. Perhaps, I'll get that new camera purchased soon.....

In the meantime, this picture will just have to do. For this card I used:

Paper Dolls Everyday for the crawling baby and rabbit

New Arrival for the baby blocks

The patterned paper is from Nana's Nursery

My Guitar "Hero" Altered Clock

Shhhhhhh, be very quiet......I made this for one of my boys for Christmas.

The "numbers" are actual guitar pics that I bought at the local guitar store (.35 each when you purchase 12 or more) and the cuts for the boy and guitar are from Everyday Paper Dolls.

The face on my boy was printed on using this wonderful new software that one of the ladies shared with our yahoo group. It's called Create A Face. It was the first time I used the software and I don't mind telling you that I was really pleased with the results.

Trick or Treat - Halloween Door Card

We're having a door decorating contest at work and each department that wanted to play along had to pick one door. Some of the rules were:

90% of the door had to be covered
Candy could not be used as part of the decorum
You had to use at least one "supply" that is found in your department
No gore/violence
Lights were allowed (but no candles ::grin::)
You're limited to $30

I wanted to try to do a headless horseman riding through a graveyard but couldn't figure out a way to do it with the carts I have and make it look right. So I decided to try a trick or treating "scene".

For this "card" I used the Paper Dolls Dress Up cart and made the following cuts:

Haunted House at 12" (bottom windows are covered in glitter)
Two trees at 12" (cut from two different shades of brown and entertwined)
Remaining trees cut at 4"
Ghosts cut at 2 1/2"
Picket fence at 2"
Skeleton at 4"
Trick or Treaters were cut at 5"
Treat bags cut at 2"
Tombstones cut at 6" (this is where I used our office "supply" - business cards for myself, Resort Manager and Assistant Resort Manager)

Ravens cut at 1 1/2"

Bats cut at 1 or 1 1/2"
I used Accent Essentials to cut the circle for my moon and Child's Year for my witch but I do not remember the sizes I cut.....sorry.

The stars were cut using my Sizzix.

I am not a colorer but broke into my daughter's crayons to "color" the sky/grass/road. I then spot sprayed adhesive to the sky so that I could adhere random bits of glitter.

After my husband help me hang the "card" (yep, I work with my husband - and I love it - we've been working together for years) we poked holes and worked my lights into the sky.....

Judging takes place on Saturday so wish me well.....

High Flyin' Halloween

Here's another one that I made this week.

For this one I used A Child's Year for the flying witch - 2"

Camp out for the sign hanging from the tree branch - 3/4"

PPDU for the tree - 3 1/2", cauldron 2" and the moon/stars - 1"

The glitter background doesn't show up well in the pics since the sky is really shades of black and orange topaz but at least you get the idea...

'Fangs' for the Treats

I created this card a couple nights ago for a challenge on one of my Yahoo! groups. All cuts are from the Paper Dolls Dress Up cartridge.

Dracula at 4"

Pumpkin at 1"

Fence at 1 1/4"

Moon and Stars at 2"

Bat at 1"

The background for my card is a new technique - Gradient is Radiant - for me and was spotlighted in the Sep/Oct 09 edition of Paper Crafts. I ran a sheet of white cardstock through the Xyron and then applied two shades of glitter beginning at opposite ends.
The idea is to go lighter as you get to each end. I need a little more work at it but I love the way this card turned out.
If you're curious to see other versions of this technique take a look at the Gradient is Radiant challenge that is going on over at the Moxie Fab World Blog: http://www.moxiefabworld.com/2009/09/gradient-is-radiant-next-moxie-fab.html

Piglet Get Well - Card Challenge #22

Laney's assignment for me was: How about Pooh & Friends Use Piglet and make a Get Well Card

I saw this idea done originally with Pooh months ago and thought it was so cute that I chose it for this card.

The bed and the blanket are from the new Every Day Paper Dolls. The blanket was actually a towel that I cut around on to fit my needs.
