Prince Charming's Conversation Hearts

Today I’m going old school.  Pulling out the Cricut cartridges and creating a Valentine themed memory box for my husband.
To create the box I cut:
·         2 pieces of foam core board 9 "x 9" for the top and bottom of the box
·         4 pieces 1" x 8" for the sides of the box
·         1 piece that was 1.25" x 9" to use as the brace for the lid
I then covered the pieces with blue cardstock and on the inside I chose a valentine theme paper to use as my "accent". It was a double-sided print so I used one side for the lid and the other for the bottom of the box.
For the cover of my box I embossed two sheets of white and red paper with the Cuttlebug hearts folder and then created my background square. Prince Charming and Sleeping Beauty were cut at 7" from Happily Ever After. I didn't care for the way the eyes and lips cut so I painted those in and added some red glitter to Beauty's lips.

For the conversation hearts I cut a fry box from Tags, Bags, Boxes and More.  The hearts on the box are from Doodlecharms.  The large one I cut at 3” and the smaller ones I cut at 1”.

To make the "conversation hearts" I cut hearts from Happily Ever After.  These were cut at 3" and then inked. To get the verbiage on them I formatted text boxes the size I needed in Word, did a 'test' print and then placed a small amount of tape on the paper, placed the heart accordingly and then printed to add my verbiage. The font I chose is from dafont.com and is called fontdinerdotcom luveable.

And now I'm off to enter my project into the following challenges:

Fantabulous Cricut Challenge - Valentine's Day - Ends February 14th

Bitten by the Bug 2 - Valentine Hearts - Ends February 14th

DL Art - Pink, Red and Hearts - Ends February 24th

Die Cuttin' Divas - Love - Ends February 14th

My Favorite Things

After a little bit of an inspirational slump this card popped into my head so I had to hurry up and commit it to Design Studio before I left for work.  And then when I got home I went straight to work before cooking dinner or anything.  Isn't that just horrible?  Thank goodness the kids are out and my husband wanted to chill in front of his computer for a while too.

For this card I used:

Rock Princess for my girl
Mickey Font for the numbers
Mickey and Friends for the diamond ring and shopping bags
Happily Ever After for the shoes

The inside sentiment says "but you are my most favorite"

Shoe Shopping

This week's Cricut Cardz Challenge was to create a card using any shoe cut we wanted.  I kept racking my brain all week trying to figure out what in the world I was going to do and at one point I thought I had it but realized I didn't.

Then I remembered that I had this wonderful paper and decided to design around it.  Easily done but looking back I'm thinking I should have made my cuts a little smaller so that they would fit better on the card.  Then again I guess clouds never line up "straight".

For this card I used Create a Critter for the clouds and Disney's Happily Ever After for the shoes.

My inside sentiment says, "Know, first, who you are; and then adorn yourself accordingly."  Epictetus

Kissing Frogs - Card Challenge #10

Regina G's homework assignment was:

Cartridge: Happily Ever After

Cut: Treasure Chest (page 67)

Theme: Love

Imagine my surprise when dh took me to AC Moore this weekend and allowed me to purchase 2 of the new cartridges I've been drooling over and rain check another that was not in stock! I picked up Sweetheats and Spongebob today and rainchecked the new paper dolls.

So anyhow, I came home and immediately got to work using the sweethearts cartridge in conjunction with this homework assignment. Needless to say I am going to love using this one. The tree and the frog both are from Sweethearts.

The inside sentiment says, "They say you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find your Prince - I'm glad that I kissed you."
Btw, I have added card #11 to my gallery here: http://spotofsanity.com/forum/index.php?action=mgallery;sa=album;id=3 . I'm now a third of the way complete with my assignments and when they are all down I will have another contest. Stay tuned for details.....

Sympathy Cards

Tonight my goal was to create a couple of sympathy cards. Something no one really ever wants to do. With that in mind I opened the document where I store various card sentiments I like and randomly selected two of them.

The first card says: When someone you love becomes a memory...The memory becomes a treasure. Treasure the memories and let them lift you up.

Thus this particular card was created using the memory lane sign from Graphically Speaking. However, I also wanted something that is representative of peace/comfort and so I added the butterfly from Happily Ever After.

The second card says: May God's love heal your sorrow and may His peace replace your heartache with warm and loving memories.

For this card I chose to use the tree from Happily Ever After since it reminds me of one of those oriental type trees with the flowers (sorry - I don't remember what they are called). Again I wanted something that represented peace/comfort and for this one I chose the bird from Indie Art (which is pop dotted for dimension) so that it would create an effect of serenly gliding in amongst the flowers on the tree.

Free Standing Card With Tinkerbell & Hearts

I finally decided to try my hand with making one of the free standing cards that became so popular around October of last year. A tutorial for this card can be found on Splitcoast Stampers - just click here --> http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/freestandingpopupcard/d/

For my card I used the Tinkerbell and Happily Ever After cartridges.

Tinkerbell was cut at 3.5" and because the pieces for the eyes and mouth were so small I didn't even bother trying to cut them. Instead I used a toothpick and straight pin to paint those areas in. The hearts were cut at 1".
I apologize that the picture has a glare to it but because of the shimmer of the paper I was unable to get a crystal clear pic - with or without using the flash.

May through August

Last night I was able to complete the next four months of my calendar. I didn't like the way June was turning out and scrapped what I had to start all over again. Then I realized that I was trying too hard to make the month look "pretty" when what it needed was to look masculine. And thus I was able to get over my little slump and get through these months.

For these four months I used the following carts:

Happily Ever After
Making the Grade
Graphically Speaking
Paper Doll Dress Up
Zooballoo
Locker Talk

Rouse House

This was inspired by the January issue of Scrapbooks, etc. magazine which spotlighted a project for making a 'house' out of foam core board. So I spent part of my day today scraplifting this project and turning it into one of my own. The original directions can be found on the Scrapbooks, etc. website.

For my house I did not have access to a copy machine in order to enlarge the templates. However, I enlarged the pdf file to 125% and set my print options to print on borderless paper. Once printed I then measured the diagrams and drew them out on the foam core board for cutting.
I also used the following carts:
Accent Essentials for the picture frames (Accent 47 at 1.5"), rug (Accent 5 stretched to measure approx. 3"x4"), and the trim on the roof (4" and 4.5")
Happily Ever After for the chair (2.5" cut twice - one in blackout and one layer - for the back of chair and pieces. The pieces were then glued to other paper and cut to include 'tabs' for creating the dimension)
Paper Pups for the puppy cut at 1"
Making the Grade for the Rouse verbiage - R cut at 1" and the "ouse" were welded together to create the size needed.
The book on the chair was a piece of foam core board cut and covered with scrap paper.

Birthday Dance Shaker Card

For days I was in a creative slump and could not decide what kind of a card I wanted to make for my daughter's 16th birthday. Thing was I was worried that she'd think it immature or lame or any one of the million other things teenagers think these days. So this morning I was looking at my carts and saw the mice from Cinderella and thought that was a cheery, dancing celebration looking "pose" and went with it.

I have also been wanting to try my hand at making a shaker card and so I turned this into one. However, I didn't have acetate so I cut up a plastic type file folder and used it for the cover. All in all I'm pleased with the results.
