Sending Love at Christmas

I'm a little behind the 8 ball with a challenge that I was supposed to do for posting on Friday so to all of my DT sisters I apologize profusely.  The last two weeks have been so chaotic for our family with traveling for the holidays, getting sick while on vacation and coming home to even more sickness.  It's all been a whirlwind and we are ready for our lives to get back to their normal routines.

With all of that said, I'd like to share with you the card that I created for the Cardz TV Go to Galz Linky Party Challenge - Winter Wonderland.  I absolutely love these little penguins!

To create this card I used the following cartridges:

Zooballoo for the penguins and Winter Woodland for the hats.  The north sign is a Sizzix die.

The shimmering snow was created with a mixture of MS glitters:  Carabba Marble and Crystal Coarse.  After tearing my papers to create the layered ground I inked with a blue ink and then ran them through my Xyron, sprinkled the glitters on the paper and used my fingers to spread it around.

The stamped sentiment is from the Cardz TV "Very Merry" stamp set.

This set has been a life saver for a couple of different projects this weekend.  Stay tuned for more details....

In the meantime, hop on over to Cardz TV, check out the other designs the Go To Galz created for you and while you're there be sure to purchase this wonderful stamp set.

Birthday Circus

Happy Thursday, and two weeks until Thanksgiving everyone.  Today I'd like to share my project for the Just a Scrappin DT challenge.  This week we were directed to make a card using stripes and Autumn colors - only I somehow glossed over the Autumn part so my profuse apologies.  Although I guess some of my colors are autumnal - maybe?  I mean, there are oranges and greens......okay, I tried.  lol

Anyhow, for this card I used:

Zooballoo for my giraffe, elephant and Happy Birthday

Paper Doll Dress Up for the Circus tent

This was a quick, easy card and fun to play with since using various printed paper can yield so many spectacular results.

Now that you have seen my take on this week's challenge hop on over to Just a Scrappin to check out the other great designs our team has put together for you.  Then create your own, link up and play along with us.  I'd love to see what you come up with.

Why Hello...

Happy Thursday everyone.  Today's project comes to you courtesy of the Just A Scrappin' design team challenge.  This week's challenge puts the spotlight on animals, embossing and buttons.  We were allowed to chose any animal we desired so long as we included 3 buttons and some embossing on our project.

For my card I used:

Mickey and Friends for the flower (embossed with swiss dots)

George was used to create the holes on my flower for easier threading of the ribbon

Paper Doll Dress Up for the fox's hat

Zooballoo for the fox dressed up with her little scarf made of eyelash yarn

I had originally designed this card three years ago so I had a lot of fun re-making it.  I don't know about you but I tend to save 99% of the designs I've ever made just so that I can go back and re-create them if I wish.  It can be a lot of fun to see how the styles change over the years as you learn new techniques and add new tools to your arsenal.

But I digress.  Now that you've seen my take on the animal challenge be sure to hop on over to Just A Scrappin to check out the other great designs made by our team.  Then after you've been amply inspired create your own project, link up and play along with us.

Birthday Easel Card

So last week my boss was talking about her birthday and how she's getting old so I decided to have some fun and make her somewhat of an over the hill birthday card.  To make it even more fun I decided to make it an easel card since I haven't made in what seems like forever.

For this card I used:

  • Life's a Party for the Buzzard.
  • Paper Doll Dress Up for the fence.  After cutting out the fence and drawing over the fence lines I also crinkled it up a bit before adhering it to the paper.
  • Zooballoo for the tufts of grass.  After removing the cut from the mat I cut down into individual tufts.
My sentiment was made using MS Word and I cut that out with a pair of scissors and then pop dotted it to the card.

Hello Spring

Since yesterday was the first day of Spring I wanted to share with you a card that I made back a couple years ago.  This was the very first stair step card I made and I was so proud of the way it turned out.  For this card I used several cartridges including:

Paper Pups for the butterflies - cut at 3/4"

Stretch Your Imagination for the caterpillar - cut at 1"

Cricut Sampler (I don't have Walk in My Garden) for the flowers - cut at 2"

Zooballoo for the grass - cut at varying sizes for layering on the steps

Camp Out for the sign - cut at 2 1/2"

Animal Kingdom for the hello - cut at 1/2"

Needless to say once I finish getting my craft room put together (things have been crazy here and I should hopefully have it finished this weekend minus the new trim, carpet, etc.) I'm going to have to sit down and make some more of these kind of cards.  Especially now that the warm weather is back I'm feeling more 'motivated'.  LOL

Gift Bag & Card for Baby

I've been working on this project off and on since 6am this morning and finally finished it up.  About a week ago I won this wonderful Sizzix scoreboard die blog candy from Melissa and I have been dying to play with it.  Thankfully today was the day!

Armed with my new Sizzix die, Zooballoo, Baby Steps and a couple of embellishments I created this baby bag and gift card holder.  I cut the bag out of chipboard and then came back and cut it from paper, making a second cut of just the flap for an accent piece.

After adhering the paper to the chipboard I added a couple of white heart eyelets to the top so I could add a ribbon handle.

For my gift card holder (2 3/4" x 3 1/2" folded) I cut some grass and a cloud from Zooballoo and the little girl clothesline from Baby Steps.    On the inside I cut a section from a vellum baby saying sheet I have, ran it through my Xyron and adhered to the top portion of the card.  For the gift card holder I created a "place card here" the same size as a standard gift card and added a couple of glue dots to hold the card in place.  Until it's time to add the card though I've left the protective cover on the glue dots - thus the little squares you see.

Home Sweet Home

This week's Cricut Cardz Challenge was to create project using a house cut from any cartridge we desired.  Add to that a flourish and some lace.  Well, I didn't have any lace in my stash so I chose to use ribbon instead, but I did get the house and the flourish.

As I was trying to decide what I was going to do for this challenge I came across this frame that was part of a set I picked up on sale at KMart weeks ago.  The frames worked with what I needed but I had no need for this one that had Home Sweet Home permanently placed on it so I set it aside.  Thank goodness I didn't throw it out because it worked perfectly for this challenge.

To create this picture I used the following cuts:

Handyman for the house cut at 4"

Accent Essentials for the heart flourish (used to look like smoke coming from the chimney) cut at 1"

Zooballoo for the clouds cut at 1 1/2" and 1" which were embossed using the script folder

Then I used two different shades of 1/4" green ribbon stitched to paper to simulate the look of grass, added some flower brads I had in my stash and viola.....

So now that you've seen my project why don't you come play along with us.  Just create your project following the guidelines above and link it back to the appropriate post by clicking on the link above.

Hello Spring Flower Garden

This week's Cricut Cardz Challenge was to create a spring themed card using flower, butterflies and/or birds. Well I used two out of three so that wasn't too bad. I also tried a new card fold - the side step, and I don't mind telling you that I had a lot of fun with this one. I found the side step to be more creator friendly than just the step card so you'll see more of these in the future.

For this card though I used several cartridges:

Paper Pups for the butterflies - cut at 3/4"

Stretch Your Imagination for the caterpillar - cut at 1"

Cricut Sampler (I don't have Walk in My Garden) for the flowers - cut at 2"

Zooballoo for the grass - cut at varying sizes for layering on the steps

Camp Out for the sign - cut at 2 1/2"

Animal Kingdom for the hello - cut at 1/2"

Miss You

Good morning everyone! The card I want to share with you this morning was originally created for a submission call that wasn't accepted. That's okay though because it just means that I can share it with you sooner. The guideline for this card submission was that the theme had to be thinking of you, miss you, sympathy, etc.

For this card I chose to use

Zooballoo for the Walrus - I pop dotted the snout and added a piece of specialty yarn to create a "scarf"

Paper Dolls for the Hat

Sizzix for the embossing

Penguins Due North - Cricut Cardz DT Challenge

Today is the day! The day for what you ask? Today is the day that I get to officially post one of my cards as a Design Team Challenge member. That's right. There was a call for members awhile back and I decided why not apply. Little did I know that I would actually be accept as a team member for the Cricut Cardz Challenge.

Today is the revealing of the first of our weekly challenges and for this week's challenge anything went. So for my first design I chose the following carts and cuts:

Zooballoo for the penguins

Winter Woodland for the hats

And the north sign is a Sizzix die

If you would like to play along or see the other wonderful designs created by the team hop on over to http://www.cricutcardzchallenge.blogspot.com/

Happier Home, Baby - Card Challenge #17

I'm getting closer to the completion of my first personal challenge and I've already decided what I'm going to do for my next one. But I'm waiting until I complete at least 20 of the cards from the first challenge before I post a new one.

For this card Lisa Scrappingpinklady said:

I would like to see you use the home decor cart. Cut to use the adorable bird cut with big tail feathers. Type of card A baby card.

Since I love this bird cut it wasn't hard to come up with a design. All cuts used are from Home decor with the exception of the nest which is from Zooballoo. And I wanted this card to be in all basic/single colors so I chose to go without a picture type background this time.

Pooh's Pickin' Apples for the Teacher

Tonight's card was created based upon the homework assignment given by Vicki - the grand prize winner. Vicki said, "Here is your assignment. You are to use the SYI cart, Zooballo cart and Pooh and friends cart.Use the tree from SYI with the apples on it. Use the grass from Zooballo- this can be either the tall grass or the short grass, which is the shift lowercase feature or for extra credit use both the short and tall grassUse any character from The Pooh and Friends cart other than Pooh. You will also need to use the basket of apples from Pooh and Friends. For extra credit add either a piece of ribbon or other embellishment. the theme of your card needs to be a back to school theme"

I used all the cuts assigned above and chose to use flower eyelets as my extra credit embellishment. I will say that I'm not entirely sure I like the grass but it was required.

The inside quote says, "If an apple a day keeps the doctor away - will a basketfull make the teacher play?"

Foxy "Hi" card

So I saw this card in a recent issues of Just Cards that had this wonderful idea for creating a flower and I was immediately drawn to it. So last night I kept racking my brain trying to figure out what "character" I could use that I thought looked good with my flower. I tried a flamingo, a couple of the tinkerbell characters and another one that I can't remember but I didn't like any of them. I was so close to giving in to my frustration and scrapping the whole idea when I saw the fox on Zooballoo and decided to give it a try. And I am so glad that I did.

For this card I used:

Zooballoo for the fox

Paper Doll Dress Up for the hat

Mickey and Friends for the flower

Song of Your Heart - Friendship Card

Last night I sat down at my desk and just stared at the pics on a couple of my cartridges and after a while I had a couple of ideas pop into my head. This card is one of them.

I kept looking at the birds on the Home Decor cartridge as this is one of a couple that I purchased a while back and have yet to use. So the more I kept looking and trying to figure out what to do my gaze kept wandering back to this particular bird. And then I remembered a quote that I had saved so I opened my quote file, found it and viola the rest is now card history.

Early Bird Card

"The early bird can have the worm...I'll see you around noon with a latte"

I love this phrase and if I remember correctly I got it off the post where we were all sharing card sentiments. on the Cricut Message Boards for cards. I've been trying to figure out how I wanted to interpret the phrase and this is what I came up with this morning.

For this card I used:
the Bird from Word Builders Garden of Words cut at 3"
the worm from Sesame Street cut at 1.25"
the tuft of grass from Zooballoo
the latte from Graphically Speaking cut at 3"
and "it does a body good" from Graphically Speaking

Wild About You

So what do you make for the man in your life that has everything? No, I'm not talking about my husband - I'm talking about my dad....That was the question last year for Father's Day. And being extremely new to the cardmaking arena I had not much of an idea as to what I was doing. But I decided to give it the ol' college try.

So I had this great paper with monkeys on it and I knew (well sort of) what I was going to do. This card was made using the Zooballoo cartridge.

September through December

Whew - my 2009 calendar is now complete. And what fun I had designing and putting this together. Needless to say, I saved all my files for future re-makes. And I had an epiphany this morning too. When a month is over - don't throw the calendar page away - use it for a month themed layout. Viola! the calendar will now serve a dual purpose. How great is that?!?

For these pages I used the following carts:

Paper Pups
Stretch Your Imagination
Pooh and Friends
Graphically Speaking
Making the Grade
Zooballoo

I also used a leaf punch that came with one of my many kits last year.

Oh, after completing this project I came to another conclusion. While the 5 1/4" tall pages work great and fit in the case individually - they do not allow for the page holder to recline enough when all pages are lying in the tray with only one month displayed. So for my next calendar I think I'll scale back to a 5" tall page and see how that works. But then again I might decide what the heck and leave well enough alone.......

May through August

Last night I was able to complete the next four months of my calendar. I didn't like the way June was turning out and scrapped what I had to start all over again. Then I realized that I was trying too hard to make the month look "pretty" when what it needed was to look masculine. And thus I was able to get over my little slump and get through these months.

For these four months I used the following carts:

Happily Ever After
Making the Grade
Graphically Speaking
Paper Doll Dress Up
Zooballoo
Locker Talk
