Paper Pups I Love you - Card Challenge #11

Here is my last card for the month of August. This time I chose Leslie's assignment which was for me:

"to make an I Love You card. I love the tree and birds so you must use those cuts along with the i love you banner cut. For bonus points you may also use the border dog and cat or even just the dog and cat cut. Most of all have fun challenging yourself and thanks for letting us help you with that!"

So I created this one a couple days ago to use for my parents 43rd anniversary this weekend. I didn't use the dog/cat cut because it would not cut properly for the size I needed to scale it down to.

The couple silhouette is from the new Sweethearts cartridge.

Kissing Frogs - Card Challenge #10

Regina G's homework assignment was:

Cartridge: Happily Ever After

Cut: Treasure Chest (page 67)

Theme: Love

Imagine my surprise when dh took me to AC Moore this weekend and allowed me to purchase 2 of the new cartridges I've been drooling over and rain check another that was not in stock! I picked up Sweetheats and Spongebob today and rainchecked the new paper dolls.

So anyhow, I came home and immediately got to work using the sweethearts cartridge in conjunction with this homework assignment. Needless to say I am going to love using this one. The tree and the frog both are from Sweethearts.

The inside sentiment says, "They say you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find your Prince - I'm glad that I kissed you."
Btw, I have added card #11 to my gallery here: http://spotofsanity.com/forum/index.php?action=mgallery;sa=album;id=3 . I'm now a third of the way complete with my assignments and when they are all down I will have another contest. Stay tuned for details.....

Chipmunk's Back to School - Card Challenge #9

Leah's Card Design's Homework assignment:

Cartridges: Mickey&Friends, Locker Talk

Cuts: Any from Mickey&Friends, Locker Talk something related to kindergarten

Theme: child entering into kindergarten.

Monday was my daughter's first day of her Senior year so I was up early even though I took the day off from work. Once she was on her way to school I sat down to finish this card that I started the night before but left incomplete to watch I Love You Man with the family.

I wasn't entirely sure if I liked the way that this one turned out and wondered if I should have used leaves cut with the cricut rather than the brads I chose ( from Creative Impressions - Maple Leaf - Copper, Gold, Silver)
but what's done is done.....Of course the timing couldn't be better for this card because Kim over at Kiki's Crafts has an Autumn Days card contest going and this is going to be my entry. You can visit her blog at http://www.sistahkiki.blogspot.com/ .

Camp Out Masculine Bday - Card Challenge #8

Preoccupied said, ..."I'd love to see some manly cards from the Camp Out cart. My husband loves four wheeling and fishing so that would be great or any other cut..."

For this card I used:

Camp Out for the trees, fishing pole, fish, squirrels and cooler

Graphically Speaking for the pond

PPDU for the man

I'm really pleased with the way that this card turned out. I think it's one of my favorites thus far. But once I'm done with all 30 cards I will let each of you decide which one is your favorite. That's right - there's another contest (of sorts) around the corner........
And in case you haven't noticed by now, for whatever reason I tend to enjoy creating scenery type cards.

My First Ever Blog Award....

I received a wonderful honor this morning in that I received my first ever blog award from Penny Duncan ( http://pennyduncancreations.blogspot.com/ )! For months I have seen other blogs that have had such an honor bestowed upon them – some having multiple awards. I always wondered how they received them and now I know.
The rules for this award are that I must list five things I love to do and then pass it along to five other people.
So five things I love to do……
1. No secret here but I love creating cards whether they be for me to give as gifts or others to buy to share.
2. I love spending time with my family. Now that two of my children have grown and left for college it’s a reality that has set in more than ever before that children don’t stay for long.
3. I love to read as I have time. Ted Dekker is my all time favorite author and in my opinion is more riveting than Stephen King or Dean Koontz.
4. I love to garden and preserve my own food. I always hated it when my mother did this as I was growing up, but I’m glad that she did it and that she instilled the value of this art with me.
5. Believe it or not I love the career that I have chosen. I am an administrative assistant that does more than the typical admin. I enjoy working in the hospitality industry and I love the fact that dh and I are able to work together …..yes for the same company and on the same shift.

Now for my pick of 5 blogs with whom to share this award. I have chosen these 5 ladies because their creations and talents continue to be a source of inspiration for me. I am always looking forward to seeing what new cards they come up with on the Cricut MB’s:

1. Jeannie - http://aplaceformycards.blogspot.com/
2. Vicki - http://onepurdycard.blogspot.com/
3. Shelly - http://cardsbyshelly.blogspot.com/
4. Donna - http://donnamundinger-popsicletoes.blogspot.com/
5. Carole - http://www.crayola58a.blogspot.com/

Pre-School Elmo - Card Challenge #7

RavenRT's homework assignment was:

CART: Sesame Street and Friends

CUTS: ELMO (of course!)

The picture doesn't really show the background paper well as it is a glossy type paper. But you still get the idea.

The inside of the card says:

A,B,C,D,E Pre-School's where I want to be

F,G,H,I,J Learn to read and write each day

K,L,M,N,O Boys and girls we like to know

P,Q,R,S,T Sharing books with you and me

U,V,W,X,Y Now it's time to say good-bye

Z,Z,Z,Z,Z Pre-School's where I want to be!
If you want to see some of the other cards I've created from this challenge you'll find them here http://spotofsanity.com/forum/index.php?action=mgallery Just click on the Blogspot Card Challenge folder. I'm posting all of the cards here and when I'm done with them all there will be yet another contest coming up.
Stay Tuned for details!!!!!

Tinkerbell New Home Congratulations

This card is a combination of two assignments in one:

Becky said, "I would love to see you use the Tinkerbell cart with an image of Tinkerbell. The card would say something like DREAMS DO COME TRUE. This could be used for a card of encouragement when someone has something exciting has happened to rejoice with them. Pregnancy, first job, vacation to Disney...whatever"

And Donna said, "I'd like to see you do something with Jubilee using the house feature. It can be any type of card. I was so excited to get this cart, and now I just can't do anything with it. "

The inside sentiment says, Sharing in your happiness today and wishing you a future filled with dreams come true. Congratulations your new home.

Card Challenges

I was able to complete two more cards last night:
Pre-School Elmo and Tinkerbell New Home Congratulations
If you'd like to see them before I have a chance to post here you can take a peek at
http://spotofsanity.com/forum/index.php?action=mgallery;sa=album;id=3
Otherwise you'll need to wait until this weekend when I have a little more time to get them posted to my blog.
But now I'm off to work - have a wonderful, blessed day.

Pooh's Pickin' Apples for the Teacher

Tonight's card was created based upon the homework assignment given by Vicki - the grand prize winner. Vicki said, "Here is your assignment. You are to use the SYI cart, Zooballo cart and Pooh and friends cart.Use the tree from SYI with the apples on it. Use the grass from Zooballo- this can be either the tall grass or the short grass, which is the shift lowercase feature or for extra credit use both the short and tall grassUse any character from The Pooh and Friends cart other than Pooh. You will also need to use the basket of apples from Pooh and Friends. For extra credit add either a piece of ribbon or other embellishment. the theme of your card needs to be a back to school theme"

I used all the cuts assigned above and chose to use flower eyelets as my extra credit embellishment. I will say that I'm not entirely sure I like the grass but it was required.

The inside quote says, "If an apple a day keeps the doctor away - will a basketfull make the teacher play?"

And the Winners Are.....

....Sorry for posting so late but we decided to have a little "family time" tonight since our daughter did not have to work, and we just finished watching The Last House on the Left.

And now it's time to post the winners - chosen by random.org

#16 - You are the lucky GRAND PRIZE winner

Locker Talk-cut of the lockersFun card that says something about remembering the combination. We're starting high school and the school is huge with lockers at the end of every section. Of course, not hard for a mom to get lost!

Each winner will be contacted this evening via the contact information provided.

Congratulations ladies and a HUGE thank you to everyone that participated and played along. I truly appreciate all of your assignments and look forward to creating them all.

Combination Confusion

Okay, I couldn't stand it.....I had to start working on the challenges even though the "contest" isn't over until Monday night.

"The homework assignment given by Anonymous said...

So for the last three nights I have worked on designing this card and trying to figure out what I was going to use for the inside sentiment. Tonight I completed the card - and not a moment too soon because as soon as I cut out the project my file corrupted and I lost everything.
For this project I used the following cuts:
Locker Talk - Lockers cut at 4" and pop dotted for layering
PDDU - Girl cut at 3" also pop dotted
Indie Art - Angel cut at 1" and shrunk to fit across the shirt
Plantin Schoolbook - numbers and question marks cut at 1"

The inside sentiment for this one says:

Confused by all these numbers -
Do I turn right or left?
With lock in hand
I turn the dial
Leaving my brain to do the rest

Well Anonymous, what do you think? Did I pass your test?

Now to decide which one I'll do next.......

Quick Hello Kitty Get Well Card

My oldest daughter (who attends college in GA) had surgery today and this was a quick card that I put together for her. The teddy bear is a clip art that I printed twice and pop dotted for a little dimension.

The inside sentiment says, "Hurrying get well wishes for a speedy recovery".

Grunge Halloween Card

I have never made a Halloween card before because I am not much of a Halloween person. My husband on the other hand loves Halloween and would decorate as much for it as we do Christmas if I was into it too.

Last year I won a RAK for the Cuttlebug Skulls embossing folder and this is the second time I have ever used it. Since the embossing folder was skulls of course I had to use a skull from Indie Art. Unable to decide which one to use I asked my daughter to make the decision and this was the end result.

UPDATED: Back to School and Blog Candy

No you don't have to become a follower - I'd rather have someone follow my blog because they want to and not because they have to in order to win.

I wanted to make this opportunity fun for everyone involved. And what better way than playing up the whole back to school theme. That said, you are going to send me back to school - sorta by giving me a homework assignment......

To enter for a chance to win look over the list of cartridges I own and then leave a comment giving me a "homework" assignment for creating a new greeting card. Please include (at a minimum) the following:

Name of cartridge

Which cut/s on the cartridge to use

Theme (i.e. encouragement, birthday, etc.)

Your Cricut MB name, a link to your blog or email address (so that I can message you if you are one of the winners)

All "assignments" must be given by midnight August 17th.

I will choose three winners which will be chosen at random on August 18th and then contacted for their mailing address.

Once the drawing has been done I will begin doing my homework and will post the finished assignments here.

  • The Grand Prize winner will receive all items pictured above.

  • The other two winners will receive the card I create based upon the homework assignment they have given to me. With that said theirs will be the first cards I create and post.

If I receive at least 25 homework assignments the Grand Prize winner will also be the recipient of their choice of one of the two cuttlebug folders shown here.

Good luck and thanks to everyone who decides to play along.

You Make My World Go Round

I found these arrow brads in Michael's this weekend and the idea for this card was born. Originally I was only going to glitter up the water portion of the globe but thought that it would look nicer if I glittered the land portion as well. Little did I know that it would all kind of blend in together - until after the fact. I still like the way it turned out and don't know if I'll glitter all of it again or just use a different shade of glitter for the land.

The globe is from Going Places.

Ice Skating Snowman

So here you have it - my first Christmas card of the season. Granted it's not very detailed or time consuming compared to others that I have created. But it's been a long day and I am very tired. I still like the way it turned out though, and have ideas for how to improve it next go round.

For this card I used Speaking of Winter, Graphically Speaking, and Joys of the Season.

My snowflakes are actually glittered but didn't show up as such in the picture.
